I saw a lot of The Golden Girls on Saturday nights. I had no life and my great-grandmother lived with us. Lots of funny writing in there. I've never forgotten the one when Rose's boyfriend dies in her bed (Season 1, Episode 15). "He bought the farm, Rose!" and she responds, "What farm?" and later Rose says something like, "It's a shame. He had even recently bought a farm!"

Happy 2015, all! I watched all three of these shows while they were on; that might be the first time that's true! None of them were Appointment TV, but I did see all of them, enough to remember them fairly well. I think I mostly saw Coach because of its timeslot--thirtysomething was pretty much required viewing when I was in grad school--but I remember it pretty well. [Speaking of renaming universities--how about Wossamotta U?] I think you must be right about Flo having a spinoff show, because I, too, remember that being a thing. *googles* Aha! According to the never-wrong Wikipedia, it was called "Checking In" and only lasted 4 episodes. And I HAVE to bring you this from the Wikipedia entry on "Checking In": "1 episode of the show will be released as a bonus feature on the complete series DVD set of The Jeffersons."

Smooth Photoshopping, Anthony! I'm guessing this is the first ever time Bea Arthur, Craig T. Nelson, and Marla Gibbs have stood shoulder-to-shoulder. For that alone I'm using my Pulitzer nomination on you. Now for some stinging criticism: Coach was crap, and The Golden Girls was excellent! I thought Dave was surprisingly glowy about Coach, and I was surprised that you guys had the same take on Golden Girls that I did--for years until I actually watched the show as a grown man and recognized sharp-as-heck comedy writing and talented timing. As a male teenager, the show seemed like the antithesis of everything we thought was cool... but as it turns out, that show slays most of the stuff we were into. Even if it does center on 4 aging babes. But alas, this just (finally) proves all 40-something-year-old white guys aren't the same.

Sam... I was kinda with you up to the word "babes".
Anthony Marco
the word "babes" made me uncomfortable as well

It made me think of Muppet Babies, and then squat, felt versions of Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty with Jim Henson's arms thrust below.
