Kung Fu You know a show is a hit when The Carol Burnett show does a spoof of it. Anyways. I got to see the pilot movie on DVD. Indeed it does hold up well over time. As for it's updated version, living in Toronto, I always looked at the Spadina Avenue shop front where they filmed the early episodes. But since they covered the windows with paper all the time, you couldn't tell if they were shooting a scene.

Obviously, being that I've never lived in Canada, I've never seen "Let's Go," but the description put me in mind of the PBS show "Zoom" ( http://youtu.be/F7gzHLKT5g4, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoom_(1972_TV_series) ), only without Janis/Janice. I will definitely be looking up BBC's "World at War," because I love a good documentary and this sounds like a very good one indeed. I imagine I must have seen an episode or two of the original "Kung Fu"; I certainly have seen clips at the very least because I have a clear idea of how the show looked. And I watched most of "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues" because it was fun and also funny. (Not discounting the eye candy aspect. *clears throat* As for whether there would have been Chinese martial artists in the late 19th century in California, I would not be surprised, because of the rather large Chinese community in San Francisco, but I do not know. I DO know that as many genuine Chinese martial artist masters that could get out did so at the time of Mao's Cultural Revolution (or earlier), because my teacher's teacher (and my dojo's Grand Master) studied with a number of them in New York's Chinatown, but that's rather later than the period in which the original Kung Fu was set. (Next time, don't ask. :))

Oh, and I totally remember watching the Good 'n' Plenty ad, it was a cartoon!
