I've only listened to the first part--The Electric Company--so far, but wanted to comment before I forgot. I was just a little old for it, but one of my sisters hit that sweet spot, so we had it on every day--and I did love it. About the talent that went into that show--it wasn't just the performers. My mother teaches first grade in a private school, and when she started there, she wanted the lyrics of the "silent E" song, so she had me see if I could find them on the internet...which is when I discovered that it had been written by Tom Lehrer. So was the "l-y" song, and (according to Wikipedia, so it must be true) 8 other songs. Aside--I don't know if Tarantino watched The Electric Company, but I bet the Coen brothers did...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ooT5TFj7hM Oh, and I'm from New York. :)
Rachel
Jamie, I'm sorry for your losses.

I found another contradiction in the Tommy Westphall universe: You mention both BBC Sherlock and Star Trek--TNG as being part of it, but they can't exist in the same universe. Star Trek--TNG definitely exists in the universe where Arthur Conan Doyle wrote all those Victorian-era stories about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, since we see Data not just referring to them but acting them out (not to mention bringing Moriarty to consciousness!). However, BBC Sherlock exists in an alternate universe where Arthur Conan Doyle is known, if at all, for other writings, but never did write those stories!
Rachel
Jamie - Sounds like a tough time you've been through. If our podcast helps to distract for even a couple of minutes and maybe gets a smile or two, it'll be worth it for the next couple of episodes. --- Anthony

Rachel, But in many of the Tommy Westphall shows there exist multiple universes that are fictional creations of Tommy. For instance in Fringe and Deep Space Nine there are parallel universes. In Dr. Who there's a multiverse. Could it be that all are subsumed by the multiverse that is part of Tommy's universe? --- Anthony

thank u everyone for your kindness and support many many thanks . Jamie.

Anth, that's my problem with the whole thing, I just pulled an example that jumped out at me. There are universes in there that cannot coexist--one contains facts that can't exist in others. Wouldn't it just cause a wormhole that eats them all?
Rachel
Jamie, Sorry for your loss, as Anth said, if our next few episodes help in any small way, well then good. Rachel, Perhaps we are all figments of Tommy's imagination.....

I moved to Toronto as a kid, where I grew up watching 1980s TV. English not being my first language, I remember watching quite a bit of educational programming, but not so much The Electric Company.

Jamie - my condolences, what a tough time :( The Electric Company theme song has been stuck in my head since we recorded.. I've tried listening to other stuff to bleach it out, but nothing is working... the goggles, they do nothing.... *sigh*

LOVED the Electric Company, so much. I'm from Paris. The one in Ontario, not the one full of berets, Gitanes and baguettes.

I'm in Nova Scotia Canada. Hey I don't recall hearing you guys do the Beachcombers . I sent an email to CBC and asked when they planed on releasing the Beachcombers on DVD. They emailed me back and said there were no plans to release it ever. One of the biggest shows in Canada with 19 seasons and no plans for any kind of DVD release. lol great business decision there lol

From Prince Albert, SK, Canada. Been listening since Anth had Bob on as a guest. That episode impressed me enough to go back through the catalog and listen from the beginning. Love the show and especially dig when you guys riff on a Canadian show. Growing up without cable or satellite in the 70's & 80's in the middle of the prairies without American channels and only the American shows the Canadian channels rebroadcast, I have a slightly different experience than all 3 hosts. I have watched most of the shows that I missed through syndication and other methods so I don't feel like I missed out but it's great to hear how your memories of the shows differ or coincide with mine. Great show as always.
Steve
I listen to the function of the show's conjunctions where the woods meet the lake (which I would guess is a junction) outside of Copper Harbor Mi.
Michael
Jamie, my condolences to you. I hope time heals. As far as the show's question of the week (location), I'm in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm originally from NY, though. And yes, I have to say that, because I'm in Jacksonville.
Sam
