Awesome discussion. I haven't yet listened to this podcast of yours, Anth. You're podcasting my brain…
Bruce Campbell
Glad you enjoyed it Bruce. Dave also appeared on Episodes 20-22 of Season One.

Coming WAY late to comment on this, but... David Gerrold, who wrote "The Trouble with Tribbles" wrote two books about Star Trek, one about writing that script and one about the series as a whole (The Trouble with Tribbles and The World of Star Trek, respectively). And in one of them--possibly both--he quoted chunks from the show's bible, the summaries and descriptions they handed to scriptwriters so they'd maintain continuity. And in there, Bones and Spock were specifically meant to present--and represent--the points of view of Kirk's heart and head, which is probably why they are both such extreme characters. I loooooove this show. And I've got way too much about it in my memory banks!

Wow, that was a while ago. I actually read that book, the World Of Star Trek, back in the 90s.
Dave Brodbeck
I don't know if I'm proud or embarrassed to say I not only read both, I still own both. (And also Chekov's Enterprise, by Walter Koenig. He's a good writer!)
