My race/ethnicity teacher at Chapman University talks about this show all the time. I tried to find it online, and stumbled upon your podcast/website. I'm downloading the whole 1st season now on itunes. Thanks for discussing it.
(I agree with you, about teleplays, I think they really increased the relationship between the viewer and the characters)

Amanda - It was indeed a great show and one indicative of so many aspects of urban youth at the time. Sure the characters may have been painted a bit more broadly than subtle, but that's what 22 minute storytelling is all about. A few episodes in, and we see the deft within the broad strokes because our lives become part of theirs. Thanks for listening!
